I had a regular OB check-up on June 14. When I went in to see the doctor he told me he had to go out of town the next morning, and that he'd be gone for 2 weeks for a funeral. I was 2 days away from being 39 weeks, and insurance won't cover a repeat c-section until you are at least 39 weeks, unless you go into labor. Dr. Willis told me to go to the hospital and see if we could get something going. I thought it was going to be a big waste of time, because if I wasn't contracting or anything they'd just send me home, and I'd have to have the doctor covering for Dr. Willis do it on the day we'd planned. I wasn't dilating at all, so I called Jonathon (he was at home with the girls) and told him that I'd be home soon. After about 2 hours at the hospital the nurse said I still wasn't dilating and that she was going to call Dr. Willis and see what he wanted to do. About 15 minutes later the nurse came in and said "well we are going to have a baby tonight!" She said I was contracting enough and that the c-section would be done at 6:30 p.m. It was 5:15 when she told me this. I called Jonathon and gave him a list of stuff to grab. I hadn't even packed a bag yet, because I figured I had a week left. So he did his very best to grab everything I told him to and get the girls over to his Moms.
I started to freak out a little because I was not expecting to have her that day. I definitely wasn't expecting to have her in a little over an hour. Right away they started getting me prepped for surgery. Jonathon didn't get to the hospital till about 6:15 and before we knew it I was heading into surgery. Everything went well in the Operating Room. It was a little different than my other c-sections. My fingers started tingling and I got nauseous this time. I hadn't ever had either of those things happen before. Paisley Jade came out screaming at 7:00 p.m. :) She was SO perfect! She had a head full of hair and she weighed 7 lbs. She was 18.5 inches long.. and I immediately fell in love with her!
I feel like they stitched me up pretty quick, and I was anxious to hold my baby girl!
Jonathon stayed with Paisley while they cleaned her up and gave her a little bath and all that. About a half hour after they got me back in my room I started feeling some pretty bad pain. I asked the nurse if that was normal and she said yes. So as I'm sitting there I'm thinking this can't be normal.. I'd never felt that pain before and it seemed like the pain medication never wore off that fast with the other two c-sections. What the nurse didn't know is that the anesthesiologist didn't give me the morphine that they'd usually give you during a c-section because I am allergic. I guess somehow he missed telling the nurse this, because she thought I did have it. So in her mind my pain was probably just slowly coming on. My pain went from bad to worse within minutes and it seriously felt like my stomach and back were on fire. I've never felt anything like that before, and to be honest I'd rather be in labor for days than ever feel anything like that again. The nurse went to figure out what to give me and left me in the room alone for about 10 minutes. Jonathon was still with Paisley and didn't know the pain I was in. While I was alone in the room I thought I was going to die. I still couldn't move my legs because they were numb and it was just the most excruciating pain in the world. It took them a good hour to get my pain under control. The nurse felt so bad that she didn't know I hadn't gotten the morphine. I guess that is what is supposed to help for the first like 12-24 hrs. Since I didn't get that she said I was pretty much feeling everything they had just done an hour before. I can't explain the pain other than my insides felt like they were on fire.
Jonathon and the baby finally came into the room.. and I got to hold her! After the pain I had just endured for the last hour, it was so nice to hold her. In fact she took my mind off of it, and she really helped me calm down.

My parents headed home that day before I went to my doc appt. Since we had no idea I'd end up having her that night.. they left to go home while my Dad had a few days off. I called them when the nurse told me we were going to do the c-section that night, and they had just pulled into Monticello. My Mom was pretty upset because she was up here the last few days. She was also upset because she's always been there right after the babies were born. Her and my Dad came back up on Saturday.
Paisley's very first bath :)
